Summer is here, and what could be better than firing up the grill and enjoying a wonderful evening of grilling with friends and family? Sure, it’s easy to buy a pre-made marinade packet, but I want to encourage you to take your grilling to the next level with a few simple and flavorful tips.
My personal recommendation is to marinate the meat after grilling. That way, the meat develops a nice, flavorful crust right on the grill, and the marinade soaks in while the meat is still warm and juicy.
Before you put the meat or your vegetarian option on the grill, start with the most important things: salt and pepper. These two simple ingredients bring out the flavors wonderfully. Afterward, you can add a marinade or seasoning to suit your taste.
Making your own marinade is both fun and easy, and you can tailor it to your own taste. Start with oil and soy sauce as a base, and keep these four ingredients in mind—that way, you can create many different variations of your own marinade:
- Salt– Salt is a classic; balance it with soy sauce so it doesn't get too salty.
- Spicy– If you like a little kick, try chili, sambal, or pepper.
- Acidity– Lime or lemon adds a crisp, fresh touch.
- Sweetness– Honey, sugar, or syrup add a nice balance to the marinade.
- Seasoning: Parsley, basil, garlic, or Parmesan, for example.
Let your imagination run wild and combine these ingredients however you like. Don't be afraid to experiment and play with the flavors. I promise, you won't regret it!
Good luck with your barbecue, and have a fantastic summer!
